Bed Linens Guide
Duvet covers are not the only element that makes a great, comfortable bed. Your bed linens play an important role in your comfort. Choosing the right style, color, and material has an impact to the mood of the room. When choosing bed linens, it is important to follow these general outlines.
Size
When looking for sheets, make sure you know the exact size you are looking for. You will want to measure your mattress by length, width, and most importantly depth. A mattresses depth can vary significantly and can result in you needing to go one size higher as a result. Standard sizes are no longer applicable as the more modern styles have more depth for comfort.
Material
There are many different types of materials used for bed linens. You should first know what is most important for you. Appearance? Warmth? Comfort? With that information you can select the type that best suits your needs. The most popular types are flannel, cotton, silk, satin, and microfibre.
Each have a different look and feel to suits your specific needs.
Thread Count
A high thread count in your linens usually means more
comfort and feel. A count of say 225 means that there are 225 threads
per square inch of material. Most people believe that a higher thread
count equates to more durable and long lasting sheets. This is not the
case as the threads are actually thinner. When we recommend a certain
thread count, we typically suggest 225 and not to go lower than 175.
Other Things To Consider
What else is there to consider when choosing linens for
your bedroom? Maintenance - Make sure you read the labels understanding
the material and how it will react when putting them in the washing
machine. In some cases the material can shrink and will no longer fit
the bed. Quantity – Have a few sets of bed linens to change them when
they are dirty. You may want to have different types of sheets for
different seasons. Personally I don’t like using flannel sheets when
it’s the middle of the summer and it’s really hot.
